Designated Infection Control Officer Course
This course is designed to prepare the Designated Infection Control Officer (DICO) to fully meet the requirements for the position established under NFPA 1581, OSHA, and the Ryan White Law. Every emergency response employer in the United States is required by law to have at least one Designated Infection Control Officer (DICO) and it is recommended to have one per shift to manage exposure issues for the department.
Understanding this role and the many aspects of this job is important to assist with department risk management and department member advocacy.
Our DICO training course will cover the various laws and regulations that must be taken into account to establish a comprehensive program and participants will learn the core components of an effective post-exposure management program.
This course prepares the DICO to meet all requirements set forth by DSHS, which include:
- The roles and responsibilities of the Infection Control Officer.
- Creating and implementing an effective Infection Control plan.
- Managing exposure issues and risk management within the department.
